nesting

Nesting, nesting, nesting....

Just a few shots from the baby's nursery. We will only be in Saginaw about 6 weeks after the baby is born, but I couldn't resist setting up a nursery. It only feels right to create a space for our son to come home to. It has been SO fun for me to set it up...and I've been able to do it on a fairly tight budget, thanks to generous gifts from friends and family, craigslist, and my craft box.

*Almost all the clothes you see here are borrowed from my sister. I also got a few things at showers and I couldn't be happier with these little boy clothes! They just make me happy, looking at them :). Sweet, simple, soft, and soothing. yum.

Although the room is small, a baby doesn't need much. As a gift from my mom and stepdad, we bought the crib and change table off Amazon. John and I bought the rocker/glider for half price at a Black Friday Babies R' Us sale, and we bought the dresser off craigslist for a steal of a deal! I bought a twin bed sheet at Goodwill, created curtains, and sewed blackout lining into them (my first big sewing project). And there you have it...a baby's room!

This quilt was made by my mother! She can't remember who she made it for, but when the opportunity presented itself to use it in the nursery, I jumped on it! I looooove heirlooms, and this one is beautiful and sweet.

Books are like the icing on a nursery cake, in my opinion. It is a treasure to able to pass on to my children the same books that were passed on to me. There is so much baby merchandise out there these days and advertisements trying to convince you that "more is better". I don't buy it. I remember what I had as a child, and have seen what generations before me had as children, and it's not too much. A loving family, good books, an imagination, and soft blankets. Having books like these in my son's nursery feels like returning home.

Last but not least is, of course, our cloth diapers. Why, you might ask, do I have a picture of my cloth diapers? Well, devoted blog reader, I'm still trying to figure out myself why cloth diapers make me so incredibly excited....but they do. I have been doing lots of research (and there's a lot out there) and I feel that cloth diapering is a great fit for me. It's easy on the environment, easy on our wallet, and let's face it--they are just cute to look at! I have also made my own cloth wipes and wipe solution, which I can't wait to use.

So, here we are at 37 weeks. Baby boy could arrive at any time...or he could decide to take his time :). I'm trying to spend my days soaking in these last moments of John and I alone together, sleeping whenever I want to, and having the time and space to just "be".

  1. Baby Pitt's nursery is such a place of sanctuary (possibly because he's not crying in it at the present...;)! I love your simple and tasteful set up - totally classy!
