Weekend Getaway in Ann Arbor, Michigan

This weekend, John and I made plans to visit Ann Arbor and stay in a bed and breakfast there. I can definitively say that it was needed, worth the expense and the time away, and such a refresher for both of us. We left Saginaw on Saturday morning, made our way into Ann Arbor, and just began to explore! First stop: A very cute used bookstore. #1 function: place to find cool old books. #2: place to get warm.

A good warm-up and a few good books later, we left to browse some more shops, then eventually made our way to Sava's State Street Café. Although most people typically wouldn't care what was on the lunch menu that day, for food connoisseurs out there, I had a turkey, spinach, brie, and pear pannini. It was so delish, i couldn't stop making noises while i ate. John had a Belgian waffle with strawberries that was equally delectable.

What's a good meal if good dessert doesn't follow? We had passed the "Cupcake Station" earlier and we made a beeline to it after we ate. The smell when we arrived was a bit intoxicating (in a good way)...like cinnamon rolls x 10. We each got one and one to share, then headed to Starbucks for some coffee. Here they are, in all their beautifulness.

I got Peanut Butter and Chocolate, John got a "Michigan Bumpy" and we shared a mini Cookies n' Cream. They were so good!!!

Later that afternoon, we checked into our bed and breakfast and got settled in our room. Our room was called "The Lunar Room", was painted a really nice blue, and had a big comfy bed.

We left for our dinner date with great intentions of going to "The Prickly Pear" for dinner.

Too bad we didn't think we needed reservations for dinner because every restaurant (including that one) was packed! and had long wait times. We meandered around the (cold) city for awhile and eventually ended up at Sava again! It was the only restaurant with no wait and we knew we liked it! We felt kind of funny walking in for the twice time that day, but thankfully no one was still around from the previous shift. The hostess took us to our table--to the SAME table! Hello de ja vu! You'll be happy to know that we ordered different things from the menu this time! As we were leaving, John said he realllllly wanted another Michigan Bumpy. So, we continued our de ja vu by dropping by the cupcake station. But ah! we also need some starbucks coffee to go with our cupcake dessert, so we stopped into Starbucks!! used the same starbucks giftcard that we had, and talked to the same guy behind the counter that we did last time. Do i see a trend here?

The next morning, we headed down for breakfast following the sniff of our noses. The aroma was pretty unbelievable, but the food was even better. Our first course (yes, breakfast) was a croissant, bacon, and a baked apple stuffed with granloa and cinnamon, topped with whipped cream. DREAMY! I was making all kinds of noises this time and wondering how we got a gourmet cook to be the owner of the bed and breakfast we chose?!

And then on to the main course. FRENCH TOAST! Heart shaped!

After a post-breakfast nap:), we took a snowy walk down the road where we were staying.

This is me making a snow-angel. I didn't last long--tooooo coooold :).

It was a great weekend and we made lots of good memories! I am thankful for 2 and a half years being married to John! Happy Valentine's Day!
