This past weekend I was in Knoxville, TN for my niece and nephew's birthday parties. My brother, Zach, went to Target to find my niece, Mamie, a birthday present. Lo and behold, guess what he came out of the store with? A monchhichi. For those not familiar with the delightfulness of monchhichis, please see the picture below.

My siblings and I all had monchhichis. I am not sure if I had one of my own, or just a hand-me down, but i sure loved it. Soft and cuddly, just like the jingle advertises. So, apparently, they are back and can be purchased at Target, if you are so inclined. Boy and Girl dolls, each sold separately. Here is the commercial from back in the day.
And while we are on the topic, where are all the SO cool toys from our past? To be unashamedly cliche, "they don't make toys like they used to". One of my favorites was strawberry shortcake. Sure, she's still around, but i can guarantee you she doesn't smell or look the same. For your viewing pleasure (or dismay), see the difference.

Since when did Strawberry Shortcake become hip??!! She's a little girl that lives in a strawberry land! ughhh...
And the commercials. First, from the 80's.... (this is the only one that I was allowed to copy and paste because most are considered "vintage". you all remember the snail cart, though, right?)
and then now...
It makes me sad and soap-boxish.
That's all my musings for now. Hope you enjoyed.
Great blog idea! Seeing it made me think of the Popples!

ReplyDeleteI SO remember that snail cart that tuned into a picnic table!! Wow! I also had monchhichis, didn't they come in a cage?
ReplyDeletep.s. Miss you guys!
Great artistic expression here, Bri! Such good memories of those toys. I know we still have the Strawberry stuff---and maybe even the Monchichi---he's probably hard and icky by now, though. Love, Mom
