Taking rest

I just got home from a vacation that I didn't even know was possible. I truly rested. I truly enjoyed. I felt at home and at peace. The hidden blessing in the trip was that we didn't have internet. I'm just as much of a lover of facebook & email as the next person--in fact, probably more. But there was something freeing about not having to have contact with the rest of the world for a few days. I was free to really see what was around me, hear the sounds, smells the smells, breathe in the deliciously sweet and crisp air!! We were on Lopez, an island off the coast of Washington State with towering pine trees and a population of about 2,000. Although small, the town is complete with a bakery, a used bookstore, a library, coffee shop, winery, etc. Beautiful animals call this place home, like bald eagles, seals, foxes, aplacas, and even a camel! It was really an unbelievably beautiful place--one I hope to go back to in the coming years (many times, if I can help it :)). I was there with John's family and I continue to be so thankful for the family they are to me.

Last week felt like coming alive again...because of the beauty, the cool air, and being with some of my favorite people. A big part of it, too, was the rest I took; the rest I was given. Take rest today. Smell, see, breathe.
