one of those days

Today was one of THOSE days.  Actually, it's more like one of those weeks.  Since last Wednesday, I've often stopped to think it would not entirely be out of character for a video camera crew to pop out of the woods saying "gotcha!".  Today was no different.  After a rough night of sleeping (for all of us), I went to get Beckham out of his crib and upon opening the door was greeting with the pungent smell of vomit and diarrhea.  Poor baby boy :(.  After cleaning it up, canceling the play date at our house, and making an appointment with the doctor, we spent the rest of the morning hanging around the house.  Good ole' Spot never fails when it comes to DVDs.  Beckham loves him.  He says "Pot!" with such enthusiasm.

After a short nap (which needed to be much longer), we got dressed and headed to the doctor's appointment.  We got the green light from the doc...probably just a virus that needs to run it's course....and we headed back to the car.  I would love to say we just drove off into the cool Fall air, but instead I locked the keys in the trunk, and so there we were...sitting in the UT Medical center parking lot with nothing but a phone.  After I called for "roadside assistance", we spent our time exploring the cars around ours, smiling at strangers passing by, and Beckham amused himself with the sitting water on nearby car bumpers.  An hour later, Mr. Jack Rabbit came to the rescue!

Never a dull moment around here.  In the midst of things not going my way, I could sense God reminding me of His gifts along the way, not to be missed against the backdrop of a difficult day.        1)  John got to come and wait with us in the doctor's office.   2)  It was rainy today, which made it easy to stay indoors.  3)  Having a sick day helped me slow down.   4)  I got more hugs than usual.
